Des Moines Ultimate Summer League strives to maintain the Spirit of the Game. This is a developmental league with a core philosophy of teaching the game of Ultimate to increase the skill levels of all involved. We welcome all skill levels to our league. New players are encouraged to get involved, as they will only make the rest of us better. Captains are responsible to ensure all players on their roster play in games.
* Summer league begins May 23rd
* League consists of 12 teams
* Each team will play 2 games each night. Games are to 9.
* First game starts promptly at 6:15 PM. Second game will begin at 7:15 PM.
* Mirror at half (5 points), no break at half.
* Teams are allowed 2 time outs per game. Time outs should be limited to 2 minutes. No time outs are allowed during Time Cap period.
* Time cap for first game is 7:00 PM. Second game will be time capped at 8:00 PM.
Time cap rules - When time cap horn is sounded, play continues until the completion of point. If the score is tied at the completion of the point, the next point determines the winner. If the score is not tied at the completion of the point, the team that is ahead is the winner.
Teams will be coed with 13 - 16 players. Each team will have 2 - 3 women. There will be times when the number of women on each team will not match up. The offensive team will elect the number of women that will play a point. The defense should match the offense in terms of number of women playing. If a team cannot match because it has fewer women, that team isn't required to match if the available women played the last defensive point.
Games during the first weeks of ultimate can be stopped to explain the rules, if necessary. Captains of each team should communicate with each other, if they see a need to stop a game to teach strategy during the first few weeks.. As game times are limited, these should be brief stoppage of play. Captains should work with less experienced players on the sidelines or prior to games.
The Spirit of the Game is essential to the success of Summer League. Summer League is meant to be a fun, friendly environment that balances the competitive nature of the sport. Individuals, who are not exhibiting the Spirit of the Game, should be held accountable by their captain. If necessary, the League Commissioner should be notified of offending individuals for review.
Trent Troyer will place individuals who sign up for Summer League after teams have been established on a team. Trent will reference needs of each team to determine placement. No individuals will be allowed to join summer league during the playoffs.
