Week 2: vs. White and Purple
A couple more tough losses for our team this week, but the most important thing is, believe it or not, WE ARE GETTING BETTER!!! First off, I would like to congratulate Alex on buying cleats—hopefully he doesn’t have new blisters to go along with them!
Last week we were missing Grant, Chris and Jake; it was great to have them for week two and hopefully they all can continue to be great additions to our team! Our first game against White started off a little shaky. White jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first half, and even though we had a strong second half, it didn’t seem to be enough and we succumbed 9-5. We had great defense with Darci coming, out of nowhere it seemed, to D White’s ladies. Liz, not wanting to get beat twice to the end zone, picked up a huge D in the back of White’s end zone, but unfortunately was called for a foul and the disc went back to White. Nick did a great job keeping one of their stronger players, Ben, out of the plays, frustrating Ben and helping us make better cuts and seeing the openings! With stronger defense in the second half White had to work the disc a little more to work it up the field, unfortunately, their lungs and legs seemed to be younger then ours and they wore us out! Some great offensive points for us: Tom showed us his not afraid to throw his body around making some great leaps for catches near and in the end zone. We had a great effort from Sydney who helped handle the disc out of White’s end zone and work it up the field.
The second game against Purple was even better…even though we gave them their first win of the night. We took the game to half at 5-3, but giving them the opportunity to tie it we battled point for point the rest of the game: the game winner coming on an all guy line. This time though we played strong offense and defense in both the first and second half. Our ladies gave their ladies a real work out playing two at a time and capitalizing almost every time. Jie and Jake did a great job shutting down their strongest player, Briggs, making him work extra hard to control the game with his handling skills. In the end too many turnovers and errors on our end gave Purple the final point.
Thanks for the great effort this week Red. Solid play by everyone!!! We were hustling out there and we are doing a much better job on remembering what a force is. Maybe next week we can put a tally mark in our win column! We have Heather Lake Blue and Brown next week. Brown is a strong team with captains Rachel and Staron leading a team full of speed and height. Heather Lake Blue has strong leaders as well and will work the disc well up the field. We should give both teams a good run for the win!!! As long as we keep making good throwing decisions, strong hard cuts to the disc, and keeping the lanes clear we will eventually out score our opponents! Like mentioned above we are getting better and can only get better from here! Now, if only we can get some cleats for Tommy…….
Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next Wednesday!
