This week was the battle between the second place teams. Aqua was pitted against both Grass and Red who were also tied for second place. Of course much like Cody attacking an All You Can Eat Buffet, Aqua came to play.
Aqua 8 – Grass 7
Aqua was just able to squeak by with a win against the Grass team at time cap.
Aqua 9 – Red 4
Last time Aqua played Red we were missing Miz for half the game and Gerard for the full game. This week we had with both those guys in the line up and Red was missing the older Bris. We learned 2 things from this game.
1. The older “Mustache” brother’s lay out looks a lot like falling down.
2. Neil on Red is definitely the MVP [spoil]That is MVP for the Aqua team[/spoil]
Jim- Was not able to attend this week.
Ryan- 2 wins when you don’t show up. Since you are the actuary I’ll let you tell me if that is statistically significant.
Gerard- Our captain was a force this week. It is fun having Gerard on a team where he does not feel like he has to handle all the time. While Gerard had several moments of skying people, breaking the cup, and good D by far my favorite was his hammer on Universe point in Game 1. To say it was Brophy like might be an insult to Brophy’s throws. While many may say that Gerard should throw less hammers I believe he should throw more so they don’t blade so much and cause dents in the ground.
Phillip- Was finally able to attend after a short absence. In my head I imagined that when away he was out shopping for his very first pair of cleats. But, alas Phillip showed up without cleats. Although after watching his full field run down for a score to start Game 2 against Red, perhaps we can overlook the lack of cleats.
Matt- Matt is our superstar out there. I don’t think there has been a week that he hasn’t got a footblock, caught a score, or thrown a score.
Angela- Angela has a great attitude and is fun to have on the team. To top it off she is a great athlete and makes some great plays for us. She does a great job of getting open and continuing the flow.
Becca- Becca had some great cuts, catches, and continues. She was instrumental in our break upwind of Red’s cup.
Tate- Tate was only able to play game 1 but she made the most of her time with at least one catch for a score. At some point I definitely believe we should run a 3 lady point.
Chuck- Chuck played a few quality points for us at the end of the Red game. He was able to get some D’s and make some good throws.
Dan- Dan is new to our Summer league team. Perhaps we should have told him we already have a guy that doesn’t wear cleats. Dan does a good job out there and as he gets used to a more organized style of play (that’s right I called Summer league play organized) I’m sure he will be more comfortable out there.
Josh- Josh after brushing some rust off himself last week has become a great cutter for us. Able to beat his guy consistently force side and make good decisions with disk after he catches it.
Brady- Brady likes to hang out on the sidelines as much as I do. Unfortunately while it is a good thing to have me on the sidelines I believe the team would much rather have Brady out on the field. In the few points that Brady played I saw him get a great D and contain some really good players. Next week we will get him out there for some more points.
Jon- Jon had a solid night. He makes a good effort to stay with his man does a good job getting into open space.
Jeremy- Jeremy had a great night with a catch over Neil after Neil got a touch on the disk and a nice put for a score. Jeremy has developed into quite a solid player and I think it funny that just over a year ago I had to drag him kicking and screaming to play Ultimate.
Chops- Chops is so good he calls himself out when he is in because he knows we’ll just get the D and score after the turn.
Miz- To think after the first week of the megaphone we almost did not bring it back. Then we would have missed out on the sweet “Jabba the Hut” impersonation. While I will always love the actual game of Ultimate I believe that the laid back attitude, heckling, and general good spirit is a huge draw to the sport. Miz does a great job involving others both out on the field and with his humor on the sidelines.
