The start of Summer has officially begun with the first week of Des Moines Summer League. Aqua’s season opener was against a talented Grass team. The Aqua team was able to manage a win 9-5.
If you are new to reading my write ups these few fun facts may make reading the write up a more enjoyable experience.
1. Cody Johnson = FAT
2. Your throws will never be as bad as Brophy’s
3. Paul Utesch will be mentioned at one point in every write up.
Individual comments:
Gerard- Our captain had his final concert this week and was unable to attend. The only positive thing about missing Gerard was that we were able to win without him. While certain teams (like Asphalt last year) may be better without their captain on the field, Gerard’s presence, spirit, and pure play making ability are always missed.
Matt- It is definitely good to have Matt on our team. He makes solid decisions, has great throws, and can catch my swilly scoobers.
Becca- After watching Becca play I have the feeling that Jim may have to worry about becoming known as Becca’s brother rather than her being Jim’s sister. Becca has great athletic ability and made some great catches.
Jim- Becca’s brother had a solid night. While known for never being afraid to pull the trigger, Jim’s conservative upwind handling was much needed this Wednesday.
Brady- Being a new guy the advice to Brady was, “just remember you can always say it’s my first day”. As first days go Brady had a pretty solid one. Brady had a great one handed grab and was able to continue the throw for an upwind point for Aqua. Needless to say the phrase “It’s my first day” was probably only uttered by Paul Utesch.
Chuck- Chuck contributed some quality points for the team. It is always nice to have a lefty on the team.
Angela- While new to the game, Angela definitely has a competitive spirit. It is always fun to watch athletic people develop into Frisbee players as the season progresses.
Chops- For those of you that have not noticed I must point out that the 2009 version of Chops is looking more streamline (less Cody like) and dominant than ever. Chops by far had the best layout catch of the night and he was also able to finish the game with a cross field hammer for a score. Proving he is a mere mortal though, Chops was gracious enough to throw a “sweet” (the quotes really mean not so sweet) blade huck reminiscent of Apricot Captain Brophy. Much like Brophy’s throws the ground was really the only receiver that ever had a chance of catching this blade.
Jeremy- Jeremy had a solid night. He came up with some nice catches including the hammer from Chops for the win. Jeremy may not be used to the 10 stall since I do not believe the count ever got to above 2 before he threw the disk.
Phillip- Phillip has a true knack for getting open. While many people have this ability perhaps more amazing is that Phillip does this without cleats. I’m sure Phillip will become a favorite target as the Summer progresses.
Miz- Aqua’s late addition was definitely a welcome add. To be honest I am looking forward to watching the future hucks to Gerard from Miz. Hopefully Miz will be able to make it more often than not since his sense of humor and general good cheer always make for an enjoyable Wednesday. Plus with two Asians present we can do more Oreo cookie handler lines.
Ryan- For those of you that don’t know Ryan is an Actuary. That means if you are lined up across from him while you may be better at frisbee than him he may very well be smarter than you.
